In the latest Stella Quirks I will recap some of what she used to do and go into what she does now.
When you tell her no, Stella will just bark at you in a sassy way as if to say, "I don't agree with you!" It cracks us up but we are trying to nip it in the butt. Here is the kicker, as long as we talk to her like the human she thinks she is and we don't give her commands she is fine! I have trained many dogs and talk to them like humans on an every day occasion as they are family BUT they have always obeyed the commands.
We knew she was going to be a bit of a drama queen the first night as my husband stepped near her and she acted like he stepped on her, yelping, running up the stairs and placing that paw in her water dish and looking at us with the most heartbroken eyes we had ever seen. We knew she was smarter than any dog either of us had ever owned at that point. And when she found out if she yelped that we would tell case to be gentle in a stern voice and he didn't like it, I caught her yelping when he wasn't even near her then she'd sit and look at us to see if we were going to scold him! WE have not let her get away with much but Case has and now she really knows it. She is THE MOST vocal dog I have ever met! She will talk and talk and talk with you and anyone who will listen. You should hear her talk to "Grandma", my mom, on the phone, it is hysterical!
I have never had a dog listen so well but I can't use the word heal, that will just make her ignore me on our walks, I have to say her name and point at my side and she will come back and stay there. We haven't had to use a leash on her on our walks other than to make sure if a car is coming she is safe. I taught her sit right away after bringing her home and she was very good until about a month ago? Now she just stands there and stares at me like, "No, I won't do it" and will eventually start barking at me but as soon as I tell her to stop and say, "You know what you have to do," she will sit perfectly.
Every morning her new thing, now that she knows how to jump on the bed, is to catapolt onto the bed and rub herself all over us while grunting and moaning. then she will slam herself down on us and wiggle worm herself in. After we get up and are ready she will just weave in and out of our legs or sit on my feet as I get ready. Then when my husband goes to leave for work she sits her butt at the top of the stairs where they have to wait until he leaves and just barks at him with her little frustrated noises she makes as if she is protesting her dislike of him going to work. I have to admit it is the funniest thing I have ever seen. She does one bark and he will answer her with "what" and she will bark and grumble a bit and he apologizes that he has to go and can't take her with him. She will then just full out bark at him, he gives her a kiss on the nose and a pat on the head and walks outside as she just looks at him. (How's that for a visual!)
I hope you have enjoyed your dose of Stella Quirks and that it gives you a good laugh!
