one evening just after getting home, I get a call from the wildlife rehab center I volunteer with that there is a baby gray squirrel near me asking if I could go pick it up for her. so, I hoped in my car and went to get it.
the poor thing was covered in fleas, very hungry and scared. it was only about 4 days old and could not see yet. she had fallen out of a tree in town with her brother and unfortunately the brother was severely injured, she was only mildly.
upon getting her home we gave her a bath to rid her of fleas, some pedialyte to give her some electrolytes and then eventually started giving her some formula. she took quick to the bottle and started growing in no time.
now I had never had a gray squirrel before, only reds, so this was a completely new experience for me all together. she was much bigger, she grew quicker and waaaay more vocal! I did not determine when she would eat but rather she informed me when she was hungry. which was every hour or so. the way she'd let me know when it was time to feed her was to let out a horrible shrilling squawk repeatedly until she got a bottle presented to her mouth. she'd then suck it down and if she was still hungry would continue to cry until she got her fill.
she has since grown and now only grunts and makes silly noises when she's excited to see us thankfully no more screaming.
