First, we started off the day at the vet’s office for shots and his checkup. He is a perfectly healthy “little” boy weighing in at 18.8 pounds at 8 weeks old. He hammed it up a bit for the Vet and vet techs with his cuteness and made them all fall in love with him as usual and we headed off to Grandma and Grandpa’s house!
We introduced them all and it was love at first smell for the big dogs, Harley and Tennessee. Stella stood guard as they sniffed and never let her baby brother out of her sight. After the initial introduction they decided it was time to PLAY. And play they did!
Stella zoomed around the yard with no chance for the other dogs to catch her and little Rumley really thought he was going fast enough to catch them but he just wasn’t. They played chase, they wrestled and they explored throughout the massive yard. Rumley even found a toy that had been buried in the snow and claimed it as his own. He very proudly strutted around displaying his new toy for everyone to see.
Seeing them crashing through the snow, ripping around with each other and just plain enjoying each other was something that made me so happy. All of the pups that I had in my life were together and enjoying life.
Stella thought she was too fast to be caught by the big boys so she was tearing around and neither could catch her just as she thought! But she didn’t account for Harley, the Great Dane/Newfoundland/Gordon Setter/Border Collie, to outsmart her. He realized he couldn’t catch her and he decided to cut her off as she came around the fire pit. As he and Tennessee chased her from across the driveway towards the fire pit, Harley split from the group and went around the fire pit heading her off as she rounded it. It startled Stella and she had to have jumped 3 feet in the air when she saw him coming at her from the front and not behind her anymore. She instantly rolled over and let them both catch her. Just as fast as she had laid down and let them catch up, she was gone again! She ran nonstop with Tennessee for the several hours we were there.
Rumley got to hang out with Grandpa and cuddle a bit for a rest before we headed out to meet the Great Grandparents.
On our way there, Rumley was out cold. When we got there I had to lift him and carry him into the house because he would not wake up even when I put him on the ground. Grandma was absolutely blown away with his size, color and CUTENESS while Grandpa was in love with the fact he was a giant breed puppy. As we talked a little about how he has been and how they have been my Grandpa just held him in his lap as he slept soundly, still tired from my parents’ house. Then, before I knew it, it was time to say goodbye to get him and Stella home for the evening.
We let the pups go potty as we talked a bit and then I loaded them up to head home. They both slept the entire ride home and I had to, again, carry little Rumley into the house as he was just too tired to wake up.
